Portland, OR May 19, 20, 21 Posted Thu, May 18th 9:52AM by Grace Lee I've been absent on the blog for a while -- sorry. I was in the middle of shooting another film. But the Grace Lee Project is still alive and kicking. I've been doing some screenings at universities recently -- including yesterday at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
In June I'll be in Philadelphia for a couple of screenings...more to come! <- Previous | Next ->

M. M. Thu, May 18th 4:35PM I enjoyed viewing your film! | Marlo Sat, Jun 3rd 7:34AM thanks for coming out and sharing the film! | lizz Wed, Jun 7th 12:33PM When and where in philly? i'm glad you're coming! | Stephanie Lee Sun, Jun 18th 10:00PM I think it's horrible how you discussed one woman's experience helping her friend who is a survivor of domestic violence, particularly since this friend was in hiding. Batterers are not people completely removed from society, they are part of society and can find their victims very easily. I work with domestic violence victims and their batterers can find them and track them down even with the smallest pieces of information. You should learn how to be a responsible and ethical film maker. | Grace Lee Mon, Jun 19th 9:59PM I think it's regrettable that you make assumptions based on no information at all. If the women in the film did not want to be shown in the film, I would not have included them or their stories. On the contrary, they chose to tell their stories because they had moved beyond that stage in their lives and beyond that kind of debilitating fear. | Grace Lee Thu, Jul 27th 10:07AM Hi Stephanie Lee. I am Grace Lee that "helped" her friend during a crisis. No one knows more the seriousness of domestic violence because we have lived it. All of our children are now of legal age and on their own. As mothers, that was our goal. We took drastic steps when we needed to.We do not live our lives crippled in fear.We chose to tell our story to show others how our family lives, which is more than as "survivors." We have a responsibility to our children to show them that life does go on, not to allow yourself to live crippled in fear and more importantly how to stop the cycle in their own family so that it does not become systemic. One day the kids as well as their mother will have love relationships in their lives. Mine was borne out of love, caring, loyalty and guidance to a family that knew no where else to go in crisis. You may work with domestic violence, but you do not know our situation. To say that the filmmaker is irresponsible and unethical is to say we are the same. I take our situation very seriously and we have taken all precautions legally and intelligently. You bring up valid points about anonymity, but you should inquire and not assume. Afterall, that is part of what The Grace Lee Project is all about..We may have a commonality in our names, but we are NOT the same. |
